Abstract [en]

This chapter focuses on the importance for school leaders to create strong internal systems of work that are interdependent and interconnected around a common purpose and set of values to be responsive to changing conditions including crises. Based on six lessons from the sciences drawing from systems theory, chaos and complexity and network theory, we illustrate how educational leaders can ignite energy for reimagining and reshaping schools no matter the turbulent times.  The sustainability of schooling as a public or private service depends on how well networks are built that become complex adaptive systems of learning for a school’s development. The future of schooling depends on bold leadership that embraces systems-thinking, living on the edge of chaos, and network-thinking to become adaptive no matter the crisis.
