Abstract [en]

Female equality is a subject that with time has become all the more important in the politicalworld. Women have been and are still in many countries underrepresented in the parliament, which makes political equality not obtained. This study examines the following factors;political system, economy, political heritage and female role models in order to see if thesefactors are associated with a high rate of females in the parliament amongst countries in theEuropean Union. The chosen factors have support in earlier previous research which indicatethat these factors can affect. The study uses a comparative quantitative method to compareand see differences and similarities between the countries that are members in the EuropeanUnion. The result of the study is that two of the factors affect the amount of women in theparliament in a bivariate analysis, however in the multivariate analysis this connection is notvisible.
