Historizing International Humanitarian Law. Could we? Should we?
Abstract [en]
This is a conference that brings together historians and international law scholars with the aim to further cooperationwithin the field of the history of international humanitarian law. It draws on the traditions of critical legal studies createdby, among others, Martti Koskenniemi and David Kennedy, and eminent scholars such as Robert Howse, Mark Neocleousand Arnulf Becker Lorca are amomg the invited speakers. It also draws on recent developments into the study of thepolitical history of International Humanitarian and Criminal Law, and among the invited are scholars such as AlexanderGillespie, Mark Lewis and Daniel Marc Segasser. The conference is organised by the cross-faculty research institutionHugo Valentin Centre, in co-operation with the Department of Law, Uppsala University. The conference will be in early summer 2016, and about a hundred participants are expected.
