Title [sv]
Från humanitär hjälp i fält till det totala kriget: Sveriges förhållande till den internationella humanitära rätten i dess tidiga skeden, 1864-1952
Title [en]
From humanitarianism in the field to total war: Sweden´s relationship to International Humanitarian Law in its early stages, 1864-1952
Abstract [sv]
This study aims to give a comprehensive view of how Sweden (and Sweden-Norway) related to the creation of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) during the first ninety years of its modern existence - the age of conventions. Studies of the development of IHL have generally had two focuses: the strictly juridical, and the one focusing on the great powers. This study aims to give a much broader view of the development, the kind of view that is possible through a historical study, and it will also be made from the perspective of a small power. A matrix model and the method of the juridical family tree (Dory) makes sure that juridical detail will not be lost sight of, and the study will mainly be based on foreign archival material, from the congresses of Geneva and Hague, and from other foreign offices.
